Venetian plaster 101

This one-day hands-on class is an introduction to authentic Venetian plaster using Grasello di Calce from Bernini Italian Lime Plasters, imported from Italy.

Taught by Ronald Layman, this course is designed for beginners, painters, contractors, designers and decorative artists who want to understand the basics of working with traditional lime plaster.

You will learn:

  • Surface preparation and priming
  • The proper use of trowels and blades
  • Base-coat application
  • Color mixing and tinting
  • Layering for depth and movement
  • Burnishing and waxing
  • Basic tool care and maintenance

Students will work on their own sample boards throughout the day and receive individual guidance during the application process.

By the end of the class, you will have a better understanding of how Grasello behaves, how to apply it properly and how to create a smooth, polished Venetian plaster finish.
